With the arrival of Hyper Converged, hardware is pushed more and more to the limit than ever before, giving you good value for your money.
But how do you design your Hyper Converged solution? There are so many (hardware) options. Can you still see the forest through the trees?
In this session I will go over a customer case, how we designed the Horizon View environment. This approach is different as the traditional approach.
This session is not about specific product/vendors. Just the design approach.

Get DEVOPSy with Lifecycle Manager - Deploy and manage VMware vRealize products AND their content!
The purpose of this talk is to introduce the audience to the vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager product, and to demonstrate its use.

The vRealize Suite Lifecycle manager is a new part of the VMware vRealize family. It acts as the spider in the web of the entire suite of vRealize products.
You can easily and centrally control the lifecycle (deployment, patching, upgrading, certificates, etc) of vROPS, vRA, vRO Loginsight and Network Insight.
All configuration is saved and exportable as code, making the infrastructure-as-code dream a reality.
But beyond this, you can actually manage the CONTENT of these products.
Create an amazingly useful new vROPS Dashboard, or vRO workflow? Export it as code, manage it with source-controle, and de-deploy it to a different enviroment. The Lifecycle manager makes this all super simple.

In this talk, I will cover the basics of the Lifecycle manager; its history, how to deploy it, what it can do for you.
I will then demonstrate some key functions - Deployment of a vRealize Suite product from inside the Lifecycle Manager.
I will also demonstrate content control; exporting from one environment, managing the content in source-control, and then redeploying it to a new endpoint.

VDI by Day, Compute by Night
In a real-life project, I have designed and deployed a VDI platform that was fully utilized for a great User Experience by day. By night, the platform automatically turned into a compute platform to run Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence workloads and fully utilized CPUs, RAM and of course: GPUs. By leveraging the features and technologies in VMware Horizon, VMware vSphere and NVIDIA vGPU we were able to design and build a dynamic platform that is not only able to present the user with a great User Experience, but also offers data scientists a place to run their complex DL/AI (High-Performance Computing) workloads.

In this session, I will explain how the platform was designed, what challenges I faced and how we solved them to get the ultimate VDI/HPC platform. The session will contain multiple demos :)

vSphere ESXi; The platform for past, present & future virtualization!
vSphere ESXi remains to be the fundament for successful abstraction and pooling of compute resources. It is certainly not a commodity. This talk goes into all recent developments in vSphere ESXi.
ESXi is an increasingly important pillar in today's virtual data center with the introduction of new hardware technology support like GPU, PMEM, and RDMA. With industries moving towards ML, AI workloads, the focus is on high performance computing. vSphere ESXi allows for very low overhead while utilizing hardware acceleration to deliver unpreceded performance.
With the move towards Edge computing, we recently announced the support for ARM CPU architecture. What does this mean and what will the future behold?

Come listen to me, I’m a fraud; a story on impostor syndrome
A story on success, impostor syndrome and self-inflicted, perpetually non-existent comfort zone.

Do you recognize the fear of being exposed as a fraud? I do. And I’ve had success because of the syndrome. I’ve learned to harness it, figuring out how to come to terms with it and use it for good. I now live in a self-inflicted, perpetually non-existing comfort zone, and I want you to, too!

Come listen to my story and learn to harness your self-doubt. I’m here to show the little things I did differently every day:
  • How being kind to yourself is key. Forgive, don’t judge. Accept who you are.
  • Learn about your internal convictions and expose these to the world authentically and honestly.
  • How complimenting yourself and others goes a long way
  • Build a case for yourself by keep notes of people saying nice things about you
  • Self-doubt is a powerful tool as a leader, if used consciously
  • Focus on (professional) relationships, not on technical merit
  • Harness feedback, even it’s scary
With these small, incremental improvements, I now live in a self-inflicted, perpetually non-existing comfort zone. I’m constantly in the imposter zone, because I’m constantly doing new things, learning new skills, meeting new people. And I love it! It has brought me many smaller and larger victories, a career that’s led me to new and unexpected ventures and most importantly, a network of friends and relationships I otherwise would never have had.

VMware Cloud Verified program from a tenant perspective
How to manage your virtual cloud infrastructure if you use one of VMware's Cloud Verified service provider partners? We'll give you a tour of a vCloud Director powered cloud from a customer perspective. Back in 2010 VMware launched vCloud Director. A cloud management platform that brought multi-tenancy capabilities to your vSphere infrastructure. This product was discontinued for general usage. However it is still available for VMware Cloud Providers. In fact it is one of the key components for service providers that offer a VMware Cloud Verified service. You can find a lot of information online on how to build your own vCloud Director powered cloud but it is less known what the experience is from a customer perspective. As a lot has changed since 2010 so an update is long overdue.

Automated Multi-Pod Micro-Segmentation with NSX-V
With the implementation of Infrastructure as a Service, DevOps teams can easily request compliant Web-servers, Database-servers and other types of Infrastructure components to build IT driven solutions.
To support growth in the number of workloads we want a flexible design by implementing micro-segmentation in an automated fashion. DevOps teams can utilize availability zones across datacenters to for fill their SLA.
By implementing a design that uses Pods we can offer DevOps teams a network with default connectivity between datacenters.
To make a Pod design independent of other Pods, an NSX-V and vCenter pair need to be created. When combining multiple NSX-V instances, there is no built-in solution to scale beyond two.
To make this possible we develop the automation in Visual Studio Code with TypeScript that transpiles to JavaScript. With maven we build a vRealize Orchestrator package which will be pushed to vRealize Orchestrator.

Debunking the VMware EUC cloud
So you are interested or already doing End User Computing (EUC) within the Cloud? What is your EUC Cloud Strategy?

Many organizations started their Cloud journey with moving to Microsoft Office 365. Now Microsoft Office 365 is well accepted and we are used to moving parts to the cloud, we can ask ourselves: What is our EUC (Cloud) strategy? Do we still need VDI or RDSH? Do we create a hybrid solution or a multi-cloud environment? How do deliver a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure from the cloud?

Over the year, VMware expanded their EUC portfolio with different cloud solutions. In this session, Dennis is focusing of the different VMware EUC cloud solutions and how they are different from each other, but also how they can work together to provide you with the best possible digital Workspace!

Products covered:

Disaster Recovery & VMware Cloud on AWS

VMware cloud on AWS

Designing for the Unexpected - Delivering IT on a boat with VMware Horizon
This session will discuss some of the key requirements of delivering an IT infrastructure on a boat for a maritime expedition. We will demonstrate how using VMware’s end-user computing solution enabled the science team to deliver complex applications that map the archeology of the Black Sea. Further, we will detail the requirements, constraints, and risks plus the decisions taken to overcome these - making it possible to conduct one of the largest multi-disciplinary maritime archaeology projects ever attempted.

Secure Desktop with NSX under the hood session

Ja was in 2016 mijn antwoord.
